Portraits

Large, colorful portraits in acrylic, often with birds.

My portraits are my largest works on paper, painted at 18 by 24 inches on Strathmore mixed media paper. The bigger surface gives me room to move, to lay down wide strokes of acrylic and let the color do the work.

Faces are built from patches of pink, turquoise, coral and violet rather than true skin tones. Many of my subjects close their eyes or look away, and birds tend to find their way onto shoulders, blouses and hair.

There is also one dog in the group, a bulldog who settled in among the portraits and made himself at home.
