About & contact
Hello, my name is Karin.
I am an artist and photographer drawn to animals, travel, and still life. I work in oil pastel, gouache, acrylic, sketching, and photography.
About the artist
My name is Karin Winter. I’m a Dutch-born artist living and working in Colorado, and I make paintings and drawings of animals, places, and the moments that catch my eye.
Art has been with me for as long as I can remember. I studied it when I was young, but somewhere between moving countries, raising a family, and simply living a life, making art slowly slipped into the background. Years later, I found my way back to it, and I haven’t stopped since.
I work mainly in oil pastel, gouache, and acrylic, with sketching and photography woven in. My favorite subjects are cats, birds, owls, flowers, and the occasional creature that probably only exists in my sketchbook. I’m drawn to pattern, expressive marks, unusual color combinations, and the personality that emerges when I stop trying to make something perfect.
Each piece usually starts with an animal that won’t leave my attention. One color leads to another, patterns grow, and an ordinary creature becomes a character with its own presence. I never know who is going to appear on the paper before me.
This website is a home for my growing collection. I hope you find something here that makes you smile, pause, or see an everyday creature a little differently.
